Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Cheerios Brand Health Initiative and Wal-Mart Strive for Excellence Scholarships
Friday, September 7, 2007
WASHINGTON, DC— Congressman Mel Watt today congratulated this year’s winners of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF), Cheerios Brand Health Initiative and Wal-Mart Strive for Excellence Scholarships.

Congressman Watt said: “I am pleased to congratulate these eighteen students on being selected to receive these merit-based scholarships.  Each year my office recommends 12th District students who have demonstrated academic talent and motivation to receive this prestigious scholarship award.  These scholarship winners will now be able to focus more on learning and less on paying their bills.”

The CBC Spouses Educational Scholarship is a national program that awards scholarships to academically talented and highly motivated students who intend to pursue full-time undergraduate, graduate or doctoral degrees.  The Cheerios Brand Health Initiative Scholarship provides financial assistance to undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students pursuing careers in a health related profession.

Last year, Wal-Mart donated a million dollars to create the Wal-Mart Strive for Excellence Scholarship in support of CBCF and the CBC Spouses initiatives to expand educational opportunities for young people nationwide.
