Friday, May 18, 2007
Congressman Mel Watt (12th District of North Carolina) announced that Ashley Bailey is this year’s winner of the 12th District Congressional Art Competition and invited her to attend the national celebration honoring winners from congressional districts around the country on June 28th in Washington, DC.

Each year an art competition called “An Artistic Discovery” is held in local congressional districts throughout the country.  The winning students are invited to a national awards ceremony in Washington, DC.  This year’s national awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2007.  The winning entries are displayed for one year as part of a national exhibition in the Cannon Tunnel, a well traveled walkway leading from the House office buildings to the U.S. Capitol.

Ashley Bailey is a junior at Kerwin Baptist Christian School in Kernersville.  Ashley’s work will be displayed in the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, DC.  She will also be eligible to receive a $12,000 scholarship from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia.

Congressman Watt said: “I offer my congratulations to all of the talented students who entered the competition and I especially congratulate this year’s winner Ashley Bailey.  I am honored to have Ashley’s work represent the 12th District.”
