2009 Artistic Discovery Art Competition

I am pleased to announce that the 12th Congressional District of North Carolina will be participating in the 2009 Congressional Art Competition: An Artistic Discovery, the Congressional high school art competition that encourages and recognizes the rich artistic talents of our nation’s young people.

The competition is open to all high school students who reside, attend school or are enrolled in an art program in the 12th Congressional District. I have enclosed guidelines that further explain the competition, and an entry form to be completed by the students who submit entries. These forms can also be accessed through my website at www.watt.house.gov/artcompetition.asp.

The winning entry from each Congressional District will be displayed for one year in the capitol Building in Washington, DC. The winning students and a guest will be invited to attend a Congressional reception to honor this year’s student winners on June 24th 2009 in Washington, DC and will also be eligible to receive a scholarship from Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia.

Art work will be accepted beginning May 11th through May 15th at our 2009 host site; the Delta Arts Center located at 226 Marshall Street, Winston Salem, NC 27101-4509.  If you are shipping your entry, please package it for return as well.

If you have any questions regarding the competition, please contact Mrs. Teresa Gore in my Charlotte office at 704-344-9950 or by e-mail at Teresa.Gore@mail.house.gov.
