Green and Healthy Homes Technical Studies Program:  In the September 22, 2009 Federal Register the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the availability of funding for the Green and Healthy Homes Technical Studies Program (Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance number 14.911). The purpose of this program is to improve our knowledge of the effects residential green construction has on both indoor environmental quality and occupant health, with a particular focus on children and other sensitive populations.  The application deadline is November 17, 2009.  Eligible applicants include state and local governments, institutions of higher education, hospitals and other nonprofit organizations.  To request an application package, visit www.grants.gov.  For further information, contact Dr. Peter Ashley, (202) 402-7580, Curtissa.L.Coleman@hud.gov.
 
Lead Hazard Control Capacity Building Grant:  In the September 22, 2009 Federal Register the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the availability of funding for the Lead Hazard Control Capacity Building Grant (Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance number 14.912).  The purpose of this program is to develop the infrastructure necessary to undertake comprehensive programs to identify and control lead-based paint hazards in eligible privately owned rental or owner-occupied housing.  The application deadline is November 19, 2009Eligible applicants include state and local government or other units of local government that have never been a direct recipient or a subgrantee of a Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control or Lead Hazard Reduction Demonstration grant. Healthy Homes Demonstration Program:  In the September 22, 2009 Federal Register the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the availability of funding for the Healthy Homes Demonstration Program (Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance number 14.901).  The purpose of this program is to mobilize public and private resources to develop the most promising, cost-effective methods for identifying and controlling key housing-related environmental health and safety hazards; build local capacity to operate sustainable programs that will prevent and control housing-related environmental health and safety hazards in low- and very low-income residences when HUD funding is exhausted and affirmatively further fair housing and environmental justice.  The application deadline is November 24, 2009.  Eligible applicants include institution of higher education, nonprofit organizations and housing authorities.
